Capital Cardiovascular is very concerned about the overall cardiovascular wellness of our patients. We recognize that much can be done to prevent patients from requiring open-heart surgeries and interventional procedures. Preventive cardiology programs are usually considered to be of two types: primary and secondary. Primary prevention programs strive to prevent the occurrence of a first event or problem with cardiovascular disease. Secondary prevention programs strive to prevent additional problems and events in the management of patients who already have recognized cardiovascular disease. All of our treatments contribute to these goals, but the appropriate style of management differs depending on whether the disease is already present or not, and the management also depends on what underlying medical conditions are actually causing cardiovascular disease to be present and/or to develop and progress in the future. Prevention often begins with evaluation to find the answer to these questions, and for patients with existing disease, periodic surveillance is important to make sure the preventive program is working.

Our team of specialists are experts in the area of prevention and have a great deal of knowledge to share with any patient who has the desire to prevent heart and vascular disease and to optimize their overall cardiovascular management in this regard.

It has been proven that most currently available preventive cardiology programs often slow disease progression, but usually do not stop or reverse it. The frequency of serious events may be reduced, but heart attacks and strokes continue to occur unless disease progression is stopped. This does not represent optimal preventive care. It is our goal to offer programs that will accomplish this greater goal of true prevention in both primary and secondary disease management. In the near future, Capital Cardiovascular Specialists will introduce more effective, highly intensive, “state-of-the-art” preventive programs for people and patients with a keen interest in ensuring optimal cardiovascular health through prevention.
